One of Gaudi’s most famous houses. It resembles a dragon, with elements symbolizing the spine, the scaly skin, bones, and skulls of virgins the dragon would eat, and a sword piercing its spine. The dragon is one of the most powerful icons of Catalonian culture, which is why the image of a dragon is depicted somewhere on many Catalonian buildings. However, Gaudi went up and beyond his commissioner’s expectations by having the whole house be a dragon.
Fun fact: Gaudi was a dictator when it came to architecture. Anything he said, goes. Gaudi had an unlimited budget for this house, so inside he went crazy with the furniture. The wife of the house asked him to slow down, since they needed space for a grand piano her son plays. When Gaudi was finished with his work, there was no room left for the piano. He simply said “Tell your son to give up the piano, and to play the flute instead.”
